If you or your child have a high temperature or are feeling too unwell to carry out your usual activities, it is best to wait until you are feeling better before having the vaccine.
How Effective is the Pneumococcal Vaccine and How Long Does Protection Last?
The pneumococcal vaccine offers the best protection against pneumococcal infections. It helps guard against the most common and severe forms of these infections, although it is still possible to develop a pneumococcal infection after vaccination.
Protection usually develops around three weeks after receiving the vaccine.
Most adults require only one dose for long-term protection, while most babies need two doses to be fully protected.
